Valet Bike Parking at the Ithaca Festival
Hi all,
The Ithaca Festival is coming up soon on June 2 – 5! For the past several years, there has been valet bike parking available, and literally hundreds of people bike to the festival. In a nutshell, valet bike parking is a volunteer run part of the festival, which offers secure bike parking for Sunday June 5th at Stewart Park. There is a fenced in area where we set up rows of bike racks, and move bikes in and out as people come and go throughout the day.
Last year, volunteers graciously parked over 100 bikes of all varieties, including mountain bikes, city bikes, road racers, family tandems with trail-a-bikes, folding bikes, kid trailers, and even an electric-assist xtracycle or two. We had a fun time chatting about bikes, drooling over the variety of interesting rides, and helping festival goers park their bikes.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! If you would like to volunteer on this day to park bikes and join in on the fun, then please fill out our quick and easy online form. It works well to volunteer for at least a few hours at a time, although if you just have an hour as you’re passing by or want to stay all day then your help is certainly appreciated too!
If you’d like to help, then sign up online here: http://doodle.com/8hhqyzxfbnngfggk. Just put your name and email or phone number in the text box, and click the boxes for the hours you want to sign up for. If you have any trouble there, just email me instead.
I am coordinating the valet bike parking this year, so if you have any questions, please email me or call my cell at 607-229-2641. We will also have the "Way2Go Depot" tabling next to the bike parking area with literature on biking, walking, TCAT and Ithaca Carshare, and welcome any other reasonable related promotion you want to do on your shift.
Thanks for you help and hope to see you there,
Andy Goodell

black raspberry plants
Hi All –
I had a nice crop of tip-root plants from my black raspberries this year, with about 45 of them. Free to a good home (which is to say, don’t take them if you aren’t going to plant them). Any unspoken for by Sunday will go to the Danby Plant Exchange (1-4 at the Danby Fire Station).
The variety is Macblack, a late-fruiting cultivar that extends the season. Excellent quality and size.
Get back to me pronto with an indication of how many you want me to save for you if you want them, as well as some idea how you will get them. I am in the middle of West Danby, which is about 10 miles southwest of Ithaca on 34/96.

Edible Forest Gardening – Rochester, NY
Edible Forest Gardening In A Nutshell: An Introduction – Saturday, May 14, 2011 9am – 1 pm
Edible Forest Gardening (EFG) is an effective way to design home scale gardens in our climate that mimic forest ecosystem structure and function, but grow food, fuel, fiber, fodder, fertilizer, "farmaceuticals," and fun while we consciously apply the principles of ecology and permaculture. Join us for a hands-on skill-building experience in edible forest gardening. Learn to transform traditional lawn landscapes into abundant food-producing perennial forest gardens. Participants will learn the skills needed to get started at their own home or expand the abilities of a gardening business. We will get our hands dirty while we install and establish a brand new forest garden.
Have you wanted to:
∙ learn about Permaculture and/or EdibleForest Gardening?
∙ learn how to grow more food in less space with less weeding and watering?
∙ learn how to use organic gardening methods to produce healthier food for your family?
∙ learn how to build healthy soil?
∙ learn how to incorporate healthy nuts, fruits, and perennial vegetables into your garden space?
This dynamic, hands-on class will meet 9-1 on Saturday in Rochester, NY (Brighton). Class size is limited. To register: Send a check for $60 payable to Rochester Permaculture, PO Box 18212, Rochester, NY 14618 along with (1) your name, (2) your mailing address, (3) your email address, and (4) phone number.
