3) SATURDAY SCHEDULE & FACILITIES
Doors will be opening at 9:30 am for arrival, sign-in, and coffee/tea. We will be on the first floor of the Gear Factory. There are separate male/female bathrooms in the studio area of the first floor. There is also a unisex bathroom in the general use open area of the first floor. Free wifi is available for attendees, please ask for passkey when you arrive. Please dress in layers. The Gear Factory is heated, but a portion of the space we are using is uninsulated concrete block warehouse space, so please help regulate the temperature for yourself.
4) FOOD
We will be providing coffee, tea and hot cocoa for the kids in the morning upon arrival. Lunch will be a soup and bread lunch prepared by volunteers. If you have indicated you can bring a contribution for the meal, please bring it to the kitchen when you arrive. We will be making a stone soup from what is brought – if you can pre-process it that would help us even more (cut and cook root veggies ahead of time, bring grains or beans pre-cooked, canned goods from last summer are awesome!, etc).
5) DINING KIT
The space we are using is not fitted out as a conference center so there are not bowls and spoons for all 85-100 of us that are expected to attend and eat (we can outfit about 25 people). We’d like to avoid using any disposable or even compostable bowls at the event, though we will have some on hand, so please bring your own dining kit to help us make this a zero waste event. Bowl – Spoon – Mug/Cup – Napkin – Etc. Compost will be collected on-site by Bread and Roses Collective House.
6) CHILDREN’S ACTIVITIES
There will be children’s activities, and volunteer supervision, in the meeting room space next to the kitchen. A schedule of activities will be posted on Saturday morning. Our volunteers have asked parents to remember the following: a)bring a drinking container for each of your children b) and any special snacks that they might enjoy throughout the day because it is going to be a long day! c) outdoor shoes and indoor shoes d) special books the kids might like to read with the group (nature, animal, peace themes would be very welcome!) e) please consider helping out as a volunteer in the children’s activity room for an hour or so of your day if needed.
6) OTHER FEATURES
In addition to the workshop and Open Space sessions (bring your knowledge and willingness to share it!), we’ll also be having a ‘zine creation station to represent the event, you can bring a completed page, or make one at the event, and we’ll mail you a copy once it’s printed and stapled if you leave us your address and a contribution for some postage. There will also be a seed swap being coordinated by the CNY Plantcycle group. Bring what seeds or plants you have to share with others and trade them at the CNY Plantcycle table throughout the day. The afterparty (from 5:30 pm to midnight) will include 6 bands, permaculture videos between sets, and a used book fair, a $5 donation will be asked for this part of the festivities to help support the Gear Factory.
Cheers, we have 94 RSVPs as of Wednesday afternoon! See you all on Saturday ~Frank
