Green Building Seminar Series
Green Building Seminar Series
The second seminar of the sixth annual Green Building Seminar Series will take place March 9 with a presentation on making the most of your existing space.
Michael May of Michael May Construction and Scott Jones, a consultant with Empowerment By Design, will discuss designing for aging in place, functional design that can adapt to changing lifestyles and stages, planning for additions, and how to make the most of your space without adding on. May is a Certified Aging In Place Specialist, a Certified Graduate Remodeler, and a Certified Green Building Professional, all from the National Association of Home Builders, and a Past President of the Tompkins-Cortland
Home Builders and Remodeler’s Association. Jones, a Licensed Occupational Therapist, Certified Aging in Place Specialist, and Licensed Home Improvement Specialist, has led continuing education courses on Universal Design and successfully purchasing a life-span home.
Future seminars in the six-part series include reducing construction waste, designing for maximum energy efficiency, a new approach to designing buildings that use as little energy as possible called “Outside In Design”, and a panel discussion with local experts on how some of our local green buildings are performing.
All seminars are Tuesdays 7 to 9 pm at the First Unitarian Church of Ithaca Annex (208 E. Buffalo St., near Aurora). The Green Building Seminar Series is presented by Tompkins County Cooperative Extension and the Ithaca Green Building Alliance with support from the First Unitarian Church of Ithaca.
Fee: $5/seminar or $20/series, scholarships available. Dates and topics subject to change. For the latest information, contact Guillermo Metz at 272-2292, or visit
